Animata Keyboard Controls

I found this activity very challenging, but it was good. It started with soldering the wires to the animata. It took a pretty long period of time to figure out how to solder properly and at times i figured what the hell, should i give up or should i carry on. Though it took a while and a couple of nights i finally figured out a way to hold it together. Another trouble was programming, I had pretty much no idea how to programe the animata to keyboard. Though with a bit of help, we got thier in the end.

Reflection on Project Machine

Our project was to create an interactive machine that could respond to input data such as sound light, distance, touch. The group struggled in the programming area which didn't help much, but we knew we had to work our way through this. Designing the machine was also a hassle at times as we kept changing things around. This was a good thing as we had quite a bit of development to work on. I thought we had worked quite well to get to through this project. Our theme for the project was the city streets and the images we programmed our machine to do produced the images quite well. Overall i thought we worked well together but found the project challenging at the same time.

Drawing Machine On Development(day before demo)

Thursday 18th-Today we developed our machine to sense our senors. Though there were a few troubles in developing the sensors. The purpose of what the machine was it could be a sweeper. For this the added cotton at the bottom of the sweepers were to produce a multi colored image. The purpose of this abstract art is to show what it is like in the city. Very Busy Very clustered. We then produced another Image with the light lazers connected to the machine to create a light laser image. This Purpose of the image was to show what its is like in the night life of the city. Cars and lights flashing around the city making it very bright very strong. I thought the drawings we produced with the machine were abstract though creative at the same time. The images were attractive to the eye.

STUDIO PROJECT 1

Thursday 11th- We joined into a group of 6 for our first project "reating an INTERACTIVE DRAWING MACHINE" that must contruct produce 3 drawings, demonstrated in class at 10am Friday 19 and the machine must also respond to input data. light sound touch etc...

Friday 12th - The ideas were what we expected were Creative! haha the challenge was obviously going to be creating the ideas into a concept. We came up with a group concept called Sweeper Spinner .The idea came from the sweeper trucks who sweep rubbish on the footpaths and in town.We knew it was a start and development was well in the mind.

Monday-Slow start. We began to create a stable base for the concept. The purpose of the stable base wasw to build a strong foundation for the main body. This took up alot of time. We then came up with ideas of materials that we would use to connect to the machine. I thought of fire and candles creating a hot melted wax. But the group didnt agree, because it could have burnt the building down. i thought i had to go with the flow with the group. So we thought and thought and so we came up with the idea of the sweeper sweeping paint to the canvas and the top spinner would squirt off paint like a whirlwind. That was going to be our magic art work.

Tuesday 16th- We had another slow start to the day. Some of the group came in late which made us a bit behind. We went to Westfield down in Britomart to get materials. This was the start of the development stage.

Wednesday 17th- We looked at our concept and thought it could be better, the programming was a bit of a problem as we all still felt quite new to it. Wednesday was a day of headaches. We prgrammed our robot and found it was struggling to read the touch sensors. Then we changed the machine to react to sound senor. It didnt go well and time is running out. Some of us are stying up all night for programming and writing up development. Others will have a goodnight sleep.haha

Split into groups of 3. the robotics task was a chance to show off what we as first year students can do. As a group we found the task of creating the a chess character and adding attributes to it quite adequate. As we tried to elaborate the the chess piece and what it could do.we agreed that our final outcome was a team effort. We then built a robotic machine which was challenging as our group found it hard to use the time effectivitly.

Creative Technologies Day 2

Day 2 Of My Creative technologies class. Programme Leader James gave us was a total out of the blue activity which he would ask us 12 set questions. This made us first year students think what could possibly be the reason why we were doing this. Well we all thought of possible reasons why we did this and we found that because we came from different areas of auckland, we had similiar qualities, such as hobbies. I think that this activity was set out to the class as a way to show that, we may not all look alike but we all have similarities which could help settle in the nervs.

Reflective Statement

Statement
The exercise showed us as a group that communicating with each other was going to be a big part of what we wanted to accomplish. During the journey, I had the troubles of moving myself up and down the street, making sure I was going the right places, following the right people and turning around in circles. The process was challenging in some ways, for example following the person in red for a long 2 minutes was interesting as I didn’t know what could happen if they had turned around and knew I was following them. Another was when I held up the object at the coffee shop. The things going through my mind of what the people were thinking looking at me, with the object in my hands. Their strong eye contact staring at me was enough for me to put the object down a leave. Other than that the issues everything else was up to the boys. So really the issue was that it was not what we thinking about the people, but what the people were thinking about us.
